I contacted The Bride’s Room about doing some cross promotional work.

I was thrilled when Kim was just as eager to plan something as I was.

So we messaged back and forth and I ran by the store to chat with her.

I am sure I came across as a whacko.

I came into her beautiful boutique all sticky and frazzled, with the smell of Yoga trailing off my body…

complete with little 20 month old on the hip (should I also mention my massive melon belly nearly knocking over anything in sight?).

I literally had 18 minutes to chat, before I had to pick up Pierson from his summer program.

She probably thought, ‘What am I thinking – this girl is a looney!”

Oh on the contrary.

Kim, was great. She was happy, eager, and laid back… as her bright spirit lit up her enchanting store!

I fell in love with this soft colored, comfortable and romantic bridal boutique.

We spouted off some ideas and Kim informed me that her store’s first birthday was the following week.
An open house with sweet treats, champagne, and lovely people.

Well, duh – I had to stop by and look at the store fully, but with make up, perfume and time!

I brought my camera to snag some photos of her and the details that make up: The Bride’s Room.

It was quite fun walking around photographing the beautiful dresses, the bling, the textures, the unique accessories, and yummy desserts!

I have some exciting news to announce soon – that will involve some beautiful dresses from this lovely boutique.

Along with some other surprises, BUT for now, mum is the word.

These cupcakes were called ‘Pink Champagne’ made by a soon to open bakery on Camp Bowie.

I cannot even tell you how perfect they were.

Not overly sugared, they were perfect providing a clean and lightly sweetened cake taste, a moist and spongy texture and the icing – oh the icing… it was a light, whipped, sweet and buttery addition.

I really could have eaten a dozen.

Some of the best cupcakes I have ever had the pleasure of eating.This is the gorgeous and talented KIM!

She opened this store exactly a year ago – what a fun fun job.

I mean can you imagine ordering all of the beautiful bridal gowns that you love?

Oh, what a dream.These belts she offers – are STUNNING!Some of her accessories – covers all different looks.

I entered Emily Hudspeth’s contest for these adorable press printed cards and WON.
Lauren from Blue Eye Brown Eye contacted me for my address to send my ‘prize.’
We found out that we live two streets away from one another!
What a small world! Well today I arrived home to find a lovely package on my step.

Meet Jennifer Claire Vaughn. It was such a pleasure to join her, along with her very supportive husband, in their home on a lovely Saturday afternoon. We caught up and laughed a lot, while I admired and photographed her beautiful home and lovely new business! Don’t let this sweet dainty gal fool you, she is quite the work horse! The wood floors in her home, yeah she laid them down; by herself. The crown molding? Uh huh, her very own hard labor. She has such a vision for beauty and isn’t afraid to get dirty while bringing her visions to life.

I am so proud of my old friend, new beautiful wife, and successful entrepreneur!

Get to know Jennifer and Memento Designs:

Brief history of you and your recent swap from teacher to creator:

I taught school for 5 years (after a brief stint in the recruiting business) and loved it. However, starting my own business has always been my dream and I always knew that one day I would find my calling in an area that I could be my best.

What was your inspiration for starting this company?

My own wedding was definitely the catalyst. I have always craved the opportunity to do something truly creative. Starting my own business was really the only way I could fully embrace my artistic and entrepreneurial side at the same time.

If I were to judge a book by it’s cover, I wouldn’t think of you as being a ‘get your hands dirty’ manual labor kind of gal… can you explain to the readers what I mean by that:

Haha. Flipping 2 homes has definitely given me some hard core “dirty” design experience. In our current house, I laid all of the wood floors, cut and installed the base boards and crown molding, rebricked the fireplace, and painted the entire exterior of the house-including the trim….to name a few. It makes me tired now just thinking about it! So, while I may appear small in stature, my table saw just might be my best friend. If i didn’t love designing invitations so much I would definitely try my hand in carpentry. Interesting combo I know. My favorite carpentry project thus far is definitely the gigantic craft shelf in my studio. It makes me happy.

(she could totally be one of those hottie carpenters on those reality design shows, I may have found another calling J!)

What does Memento Designs consist of?

All paper goods that one might need for any event….from invitations, programs, table number cards, maps, etc.

I also design custom bridal and “everyday” wear accessories. So fun.

When did all of this creativity and love for design unfold for you?

It has been a long time coming but just over the last year I found the opportunity and courage to take it on full time. Whether it’s interior design, painting, renovations, or invitations, I have always had my hand in some sort of design.

1. Nostalgic

2. Personal

3. Bespoke

Do you have any BIG plans/goals for your company or products?

There is talk of a store…..just recently The Wedding Party Studio, a boutique in Uptown, began carrying my line….who knows. I just want to create beautiful things for people in appreciation of all things truly unique. We shall see where it takes me!

What has your favorite project been so far?

Probably a Save the Date and wedding invitation for an amazing couple with incredible ideas and a fearless approach to design. The bride is earning her Phd while the groom is serving our country as a Captain in the Army. Wow.

You create many romantic pieces, where do you find inspiration?

I find my inspiration in EVERYTHING. If I had to pick three things that inspire me most it would be:

1. Vintage posters/advertisements/label art

2. Anthropologie

3. My amazing clients

Your work has recently been featured on Style Me Pretty and The Knot, two major wedding resources. How has that helped your new business?

It has helped business a great deal. I am super blessed to have worked with some very talented people in the industry who have been nothing but supportive and have helped make the publications happen. I have received a lot of positive feedback and its great to be an inspiration for other brides.

Jennifer and Ty’s wedding was featured in ‘The Knot’ and she was on the cover of ‘Bride and Groom!’

Hello, Gorgeous…

Now that you have uncovered this passion in creating, what have you learned about yourself?

I have learned so much about myself. I have discovered that while I would like to think of myself as an “organized planner” I am actually a little more right brained than I thought. Putting myself in full throttle design mode has definitely made me realize a great deal about my personality and intuitive/artistic side.

FW Sings for Haiti

When my friend Cliff asked if I wanted to be a part of “Fort Worth Sings for Haiti,” I was so pumped! This concert was put on to raise money for the Haitian earthquake and devastation… for the victims, for the families who are still homeless and injured, for those who are STILL in need. 100% of the proceeds went to Doctors Without Borders. I was able to work with some really wonderful people… Mr. Christopher Lenzini was the organizer of this event and working with him I realized what a fun, down to earth, and thoughtful man he is. There was a large ‘behind the scenes’ crew that made this entire day possible. People worked together to gather donations, auction for goods/services, bands, food, speakers, funding, volunteers, beverages, locations, etc. This day was a lot of fun and the best part is that a community came together for the good of another community in need… far far away. If we cannot help out fellow man, then what good is being one? I am so thankful to be a part of this community of selfless and fantastic people. We did SING FOR HAITI!

Fort Worth Sings for Haiti is a one-day (noon-10pm) benefit concert and family festival presented by Classic Chevrolet on Saturday March 27, 2010 at Magonlia Green Park.
Fort Worth Sings will donate 100% of all profits gained from the auction, raffle, food/beverage sales and donation boxes will directly benefit the Doctors Without Borders rebuilding efforts in Haiti.

Fresh Press

Cassie Kruemke, a graphic designer who you will remember from this post. She has joined up with local company Cockrell Printing to create a lovely paper goods company: FreshPress. They hired me for images of invitations, announcements, stationary and labels for their website. Well, has just launched and I can finally share these images!!! Cassie made some personalized calling cards for Ree Drumond – The Pioneer Woman and she loved ‘em – and anything that Ree loves is phenomenal, tasty, beautiful, and cool!

This day was a HOT and HUMID day and I swear there were dozens of mosquitoes swarming around us throughout the entire shoot. We put our brains together and created some fresh and vintage settings to display their unique designs. I have to shout out to Madison, John and Cassie for allowing me to help their vision and my vision of FRESH PRESS come to life! Please go take a look at their lovely paper products. My clients can purchase Fresh Press through me… I will take care of the cropping, photo enhancing, ordering, and will bring it to you! So Love some Fresh Press!

Goldwaves Salon

I met Brooke at a “Net7″ networking luncheon. She is spunky, fun, and called me just days after meeting her. She told me that their salon was entering an Oribe competition and they needed a photographer. Each of the stylists had to replicate an Italian Vogue cover on their personal model with their hair, make-up, and wardrobe. I walked into their salon and it was booming – people were everywhere! Two men from Oribe had flown in from NYC and Miami to show them how to get “the look” from the magazine cover. This shoot was so much fun from the moment I walked in, to shooting the last frame. They all spread positivity towards one another, the models, and myself – it was very inspiring. I wish them luck in the competition and thank them for their amazing salon. Everyone there was so fabulous, helpful, charismatic, RAD, and muy talented. Go check out Goldwaves!

The Group of Gorgeous Gals:

This is one of the models and I am showing two different ways I edited the photo. The first one is very warm with some texture added in. The second photo, to me, feels more like a sexy goth vampire. I love both photos for their own unique feel post editing.

GWAVES – Owh Owh!

Well, I had an AMAZING shoot yesterday with Goldwaves Salon! They are entering a nation wide contest through Oribe salons and hair care, recreating an Italian VOGUE cover. This is just a preview of all of the girls – wowee zowee can you feel the sultry vibe? They had two Oribe stylists fly in from NYC and Miami to show the stylists how to make “the look.” This shoot was major fun and the girls really rocked it – how intimidating to have a bunch of people watching you pose like Linda Evangelista. More to come soon.

This was also the craziest shoot too because when I got home to download the photos the computer froze up and the CF card was corrupted! I had a crazy 24 hours working with FW Camera recovery nearly every single image from the shoot – this was such a helpless and sad situation. Thanks to the big MAN upstairs for hooking me up with yet another ‘thankful’ moment.

Reata

Reata has a very special place in my heart. Long story short: When I moved back from Texas Tech I was working at Red, Hot, & Blue where I knew the General Manager. One evening I waited on a man named Al Micallef and his wife Janie. I didn’t know who he was at the time and at the end of the meal he asked me if I would come work for his restaurant that was about to open. I asked him what the name of it was… he replied with “Reata.” Well, like most people I had been to Reata in the Tower on several occasions before the Tornado wiped out the building. I was ecstatic and said “Sure I would LOVE to work there!” I opened Reata with many other servers and bartenders. What an adventure this new job began for me. I have made some of my best friends from there, met wonderful clients, as well as meeting my HUSBAND there (as his waitress)! I worked there for nearly 6 years, but had to leave when I began teaching to focus on my new career. I do miss working there, miss the people I worked with, and really miss meeting new clients. That job really complimented my people loving and conversing skills. So perhaps that was long story made longer?

Anna Shaw Cotton is the private dining coordinator. We worked together as servers a while ago, but she has been promoted to her new position. Anna called me for bridals a year and a half ago and now refers me to clients and asked me to shoot a beautiful event setup for Reata. This is my first commercial photography gig. We were on a major time crunch for this reception, so I got my stuff ready quickly to shoot away. This wedding reception was beautiful. They rented out both rooftop and main dining room. The family hired designers to change Reata’s western feel to more of a “cool lounge” vibe, while incorporating Reata’s western space. I think they did a marvelous job and I hope the photos capture what is was really like inside.
