Arden Prucha Photography bio picture
  • HI! I am Arden Prucha Jenkins - a photographer located in Fort Worth, Texas! I specialize in portraiture and more recently weddings! Please take a look around and get to know my work, my style, my life, and me.

How did I get into photography? Well, everyone has their story right? Looking back I realize that the little photog was in me all along, without even knowing it! I picked up a camera when I was around 8 and started snapping photos - I even posed my neighbors, animals, and Barbies for photos (seriously I made a Barbie wedding and photographed the entire thing).

Who am I? Well, I was a teacher for three years, but was able to leave that job to focus on photography and my two beautiful children!  I married a man who I am totally smitten over and he is crazy supportive of me.  I am a bargain shopper with expensive taste.  God allows me to trust this world with less fear and more hope and trust.  Music makes my heart flutter - so thankfully I married a very talented musician. I wish I could carry a tune, but unfortunately I cannot. My favorite month is October (dreamy light) and I miss my convertible - oh the beautiful wind .  When I was little I was amazingly or perhaps annoyingly hyper - and ate more food than all of the boys and was faster than most of them too.  I was a dancer and I love to write and converse.  When I am around people I get more energy and become alive. The differences between women and men intrigue me and kiddos make my heart melt. Photos... well, they fill my heart.

Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoy what you see.

I am THAT girl

If you ever see me checking out at the store, for your own good, keep moving!  I don’t know why, but every time I go to the grocery store I fill my basket to the brim.  This morning, after two hours at Target with a very sleep babe, I unloaded item after item onto the conveyor belt and told the clerk, “I am so sorry!”  The girl behind me clearly looks annoyed with her twelve items trailing behind my long and lumpy pile.  Parx is whining ‘NIGH NIGH’ which I believe is her word for night night and I am embarrassed; I am toting a cranky babe along with a full and heavy load!  The problem is I do the SAME thing when I go to the clothing store – I enter Banana’s dressing room with twenty items, no lie!

One day I will not be THAT girl that everyone is annoyed with in line; or perhaps I will, but I’ll just continue to shop at 8 am. 🙂

(me sweet P is a mess… a cool mess on this lovely and COOL morning)

Overflowing?  Goodness gracious! (Are you looking at my groceries?  Go for it, Reese’s Puffs are delicious!)

By the way, I have a Costco membership, why didn’t I just go there?

I ♥ Faces theme this week is: Photojournalism

When my husband played with Green River Ordinance last month they opened for The Roots and The Goo Goo Dolls.
I was lucky enough to get an all access photo pass!  Here is one of The Roots artists singing.

I love the light spots streaming in with the contrast of the dark curtains.

The colors are phenomenal!

Now, go enjoy all of the entries HERE and make sure to leave LOVE on the images that really speak to you!

Before and After

I mentioned through my FB page that I shot nearly an ENTIRE Newborn Session on the couple’s front porch.  The light was much better than inside, but there were a lot of shadows that I had to be very mindful of while photographing.

I purchased this pouch from Etsy here!  Laura has been so great to me – thanks for the great customer service! 🙂

This is my first time using one of these props and I had only received it two days before my session, so I knew it wouldn’t be pro-perfect yet.

I had dad help me A LOT on this session (Mom smells too much like food to handle that sweet and sleeping baby).

You can see I placed a black board behind Baby Bruce.

I then had Jim hold his son VERY CAREFULLY with both hands.

One Hand: Underneath the sack supporting baby

The Other Hand: holding up the sack so that it appears to be hanging.

Here is the Original or Straight Out Of the Camera (SOOC):

Let ME tell you what is noticeably wrong with this photo: the background isn’t the same color, it is shadowed, and it ends on the right, the hand of Dad is unwanted (but necessary), and the baby is a little more red that I would like.

For editing here are some steps I took:

  • First some basic adjustments in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) – exposure,  bumped up the dark, darkened the shadows, and de-saturated the red hues.
  • In Photoshop (CS4): Using the Magnetic Lasso Tool I created a patch around the bottom of the sack where the hand is all of the way to the lower right corner.
  • I then cloned out the hand and made sure all of the background was a consistent black.
  • I painted all of the areas outside of the sack with the paint tool matching the cloned area.
  • Now, this is a difficult process because the black painting was bleeding into the sack and baby a little bit.  I used my history brush to return those edges as they were prior to painting.
  • Using the burn tool I darkened all of the edges to match the painted background.
  • Using Totally Rad Actions: Select O Pop and Select O Sharp on the sack for some sharpness.
  • I then used Smooth-O-Matic to create a nice soft image, but I added a layer mask and took ‘smooth-o-matic’ off of the sack (using a soft black brush) so that it was still nice and textured.
  • Converted to BW and added a soft light layer for an additional POP.

(Some people are against actions, they assist me in my final product.  I am happy to use helpful tools, but I still have a knowledge of what I am doing!)

Voila:

Side by Side:

Then I thought – I want the baby to be smaller with more black space!

So, I:

  • created a NEW File (18″x12″)
  • cropped the photo above (8″x12″)
  • dragged the image into the new file
  • then using the paint tool matched the exposed sides with the images black background
  • flattened the image and…

William – 2011

William was able to do a Senior Mini-Session within their family session.  He was such a gentleman – which is refreshing to see a good mannered and kind young man.  William helped me carry stuff, put up with a camera in his face, and was so chill while I was posing him.  I honestly didn’t see an ounce of frustration or boredom from him.

Thanks William – I hope you enjoy your senior year – live it up my friend!GQ? Yes!
